Dylan along with Jake, Alisa, Josh, and Michelle first discuss the recent early release of the Sozin's Comet book in the news segment and then go way in-depth into "The Western Air Temple."...see more
Yep, the Avatar season 2 finale is almost here! Just hours away!~ As most of you all know I'm also editor of Avatar at TV.com (pooldude256) and I have been pounded over there with threads and threads of Zutarians cherring and Kataangs keeping faith. Finally, though, we are going to get some answers! Then the forums will be even more crazier!
Anyway, I know I promised updates by the finale. Well doesn't this count as an update? No. Pfft...whatever. I'm way behind on my bios and just about everything else. But once the finale airs I am going to work to get things finally up to date and things ready for the next season!
As promised I am going to squeeze some teasers out about the new season, as well as some episode titles! It definitely won't be anything huge or giant spoilers about the season finale or anything, but I'll have some stuff periodically during our hiatus, which will likely end in late April/early May (as the first episode of the season won't be completed until April).
If you guys want to discuss the finale here on the C-Box that is very much acceptable! That's what it's there for! I recommend though that if you're west coast and the airing will occur after the rest of the country sees it, that you don't do the double-tasking and just come here after it airs to discuss it so nothing's spoiled. You can discuss before, during and after if you want!
Well obviously I haven't updated in a while, and I'M SORRY! Since we last talked Nick aired an AWESOME episode of Avatar with the most thrilling twist I've seen in a TV show in a while (at least it was for me - I know many "predicted" it so were far less surprised, oh well, they're loss!). Obviously ifyou haven't seen "The Earth King" you don't know what the heck I'm talking about, and I definitely won't spoil it for you. It's a pretty good twist!
There has also been much buzz on forums across the online community where the fandom have either been cheering Zutara, trying to disprove the Zutarians and say Kataang will happen, or not caring at all and just freaking out at the last episode. I'm with the latter. I don't support any ships on this show, but realize there will be something that happens. Some people (not mentioning any names) are real serious about their ships, though, Personally I don't want Kataang or Zutara. I'm quite fond of the Mai/Zuko pairing, though, but that's about it. Again I don't support any ship, but if I would that would probably be the one ;-) .
Now that all that nonsense is done with. On to site matters. I feel bad for not doing any updates recently. I PROMISE I'll do some by the finale. That Destinations section I was telling you about before will probably be here at some point. It does take some time to write. I've already gotten a few of them done. Also, there will be some new skins. I'll be putting them together shortly and they should be live within a week. Graphics for these were done by none other than our fellow admin pianist (who does basically all of our graphical stuff - if it has color and is not a screen cap!)!
A couple weeks ago I bought the Avatar video game. I'm pretty disappointed. Not only are the graphics pretty muchcrap, but the game doesn't even follow the same storyline as the show. You don't meet characters in the same way either. I was hoping for new adventures and new characters. NOT a ripped off version of the show! I wouldn't spend more than $20 (which is what I bought it for), though I have seen it for as much as $40! I personally don't think it's worth it...
EDIT: I just received some information. It may not seem important at all, but Joaquim Dos Santos, who joined the team as a storyboarder late this season, is actually a director next season. Source. Unless the creators decided to go with four directors again, this means one of our beloved directors will be leaving after this season ends, similar to Dave Filoni leaving at the end of season 1. Ethan Spaulding took his place. Anywho, Joaquim is a famous director from Justice League Unlimited, and directed some kick(butt) action scenes! So he'll fit in right with our show!
As was revealed by myself on TV.com, the title for episode 2.20 is "The Crossroads of Destiny." When I first heard this title, it definitely intriuged my interest, more than anything else I've seen on Avatar. What could this title mean? Aang's destiny as Avatar, or perhaps another character's destiny? And the crossroads - somebody could be reaching their breaking point?! It's gonna be an awesome rest of the season.
I'm disappointed to say today that Nick.com has yet again messed up with our precious Avatar. For those counting, that's now the foruth screw-up (including two "leaks" and a schedule mess up) Nick.com has errored in the past 3 months. I still haven't been able to figure out how they posted a complete episode online on TurboNick a week before it airs on TV and didn't notice it for days! In fact, had I not contacted my Nick contact, it may still be up there! Geez! The episode is on Youtube now, though, but I encourage you to wait until this Friday's airing if you haven't seen it yet. I haven't seen it yet and don't plan on until Friday night. PLEASE tune in Friday even if you have seen it, it will be worth it!
On a sort of related note, co-creators Mike DiMartino and Bryan Konietzko continue to earn their nod as Best Show Creators Ever by stopping by the Pacific Media Expo this past Saturday. They answered questions from the audience, had an autograph session, and even took pictures with Avatar cosplayers! There are several reports on Livejournal.com now of reports of this event, so check those out. Among the highlights (highlight for a minor spoiler): In the season finale, Mike said Katara and Zuko will be trapped in a cave together, but it won't be like the Cave of Two Lovers! Also season 3 is supposed to start with the New Year. I'm still trying to get confirmation on what exactly that means. Oh, and there's an Airbender Avatar named Susan (revealed by Bryan - I think he was kidding!),
At about 6:30 last night I received a reply from someone at Nick whom I had contacted regarding the issue of scheduling. According to this person, the schedule for the rest of the season is going to look like this, subject to change:
11/3 - "Lake Laogai"
11/17 - "The Earth King"
12/1 - "The Guru" and 2.20
My source did stress that it is subject to change. Apparently, "Lake Laogai" is a can't miss episode, at least according to my "insider". You'll want to fire up the biggest TV in your house, turn all the lights out, make some popcorn, hide the remote and enjoy! You have to catch this episode!
There has been much buzz among the Avatar community these last couple days as to when Avatar will resume new episodes. "Lake Laogai," as you probably already know, was pre-empted last Friday in favor of an Avatar "catch-up" marathon. "Lake Laogai" is the next episode to air, as it is 217. "The Earth King" is 218. Right now Nick.com is slightly confused, as it seems communication in that company between the show programmers and the site programmers is not very good. At this time you really shouldn't believe anything Nick.com puts up on their schedule unless it has "Lake Laogai" airing before "The Earth King" and it's on a Friday night.
In Dongbu Feng news, characters from the previous few episodes will gradually be added in and pages for other characters updated. Keep checking back for that. The VA Index will be up-to-date this week as well. This week will be a major one for updates so watch out! Here's a preview of our soon-to-be-added Destinations section:
Living in the Avatar world you are given a wide spectrum of places to visit, people to see, animals to ride. This new section, titled the Destinations section, will be your all-in-one planning guide for any vacations you want to take into the Avatar world - if you could, that is! Sure, the characters and creatures have become common knowledge among Avatar fans, but sometimes the places or "destinations" get overlooked. Here each region will be represented with an array of photographs taken by those who have been there, as well as accounts of their experiences. Critics rave "DF only gets better!".
Yes, we are bringing fandom to a new level with this new section. Major changes await here at Dongbu Feng. We hope you'll all join us for the ride!
Well on this Thursday we have some good news, and some bad news. I'll tell you the bad news first, obivously. The bad news, anyway, is that there will not be a new episode of Avatar this Friday. This is heartbreaking news, as we were all looking forward to "Lake Laogai" airing tomorrow night at 8 pm. Instead, Nick will be airing a two-hour "catch-up" block from 8-10 ET tomorrow night, replaying the previous four episodes (The Drill, City of Walls and Secrets, The Tales of Ba Sing Se and Appa's Lost Days). That is sort of good news, I suppose, at least if you've missed any of the past 4 episodes. Now there still will be a chat, in fact you can stay for the entire two hours and chat about all the episodes. Which parts did you like? Which parts could have been better, etc.?
Now, on to the real good news. We have our first fan-submitted column finally posted! Pirahnapete has submitted an interesting article on Ty Lokka, and why that is a more plausible ship during season 3 than Sukka (aka George). Find the article here and please rate it with your honest opinion. So far this is the only submission we have, so please, Avatar fans, here is your chance to get your voice heard! Please submit articles and participation in this exciting opportunity! Make sure to include how you want to be credited for your work as well.
We haven't done this officially for a while now, at least not since the site has been up on this domain. This Friday DF will be holding a chat for Avatar fans during their respective time zone's airing of the new episode "Lake Laogai." Don't miss the sure-to-be-interesting reunion of Aang and the gang and Jet.
Arrive whenever you'd like on the evening of the new episode, preferably about a half-hour ahead of time. You can talk in real-time not over message boards about the episode as it unfolds. This week's is sure to be a thriller, so make sure to at least tune in. And if you can join us in the chat, even more better! If you haven't registered an account on our chat script yet, do so here. Talk to you all later!
We are going to begin to accept fan-submitted articles focusing on Avatar! If you have a seemingly insane theory no one else thinks is true, this is the time and place to prove you don't deserve that uncomfortable sleevless white jacket your therapist gave you! It could be as crazy as "Aang and Katara will fall in love" (where would get that crazy idea from?) to "Zuko will join Aang and help him defeat the Fire Lord". Whatever you think you can now put into words and have it published for others to read!
You might be saying, "That's a lot of work, and that'll take forever!". All you have to be able to do is tell what your theory is, and why you think that. It can be as little as 100 words, or as many as 1,000, but we'd say the shorter the better, probably.
Another question you might be thinking about, "Does it have to be a theory? Can't I just write about something on the show?". Well, the answer there is YES! You can write ANYTHING related to Avatar. It doesn't have to be a theory. If you want to comment on an episode and why you liked it or why you disliked it/could have been better, you can do that. It's entirely up to you.
There will be a space for users to rate the article, and the authors with the highest-rated articles at the end of each month will receive a nice prize (to be determined by the staff) as well as your own PERSONAL space to write in the future (you can pick the title of the column and each time you submit a new article it will be featured on that page).
This is not a place for fanfiction. That belongs in the Fan Creations section of our forum. All stories should be submitted to the following email address with a proper title, as well as your name you wish to be credited as and if you'd like us to link out to your site/email: .
Unfortunately, I do have some news which may want to make you all fall over. What is it, you say? Well, I've been told I can't say much, but here's the skinny: The break between Seasons 2 and 3 will likely be longer this time than the break between one and two. This isn't really official, but look for season 2 to end up in late November/early December, but season 3 likely won't begin airing until significantly longer than March of next year. I thought I'd get this out in the open now so we're not disappointed down the road by waiting for the show to premiere when it's long away. We'll classify this as "production delays."
One week following the giant debut of "Avatar: Secret of the Fire Nation," which nabbed 4.1 million viewers, the newest episode, "City of Walls and Secrets" scored 3.2 million. The drop is nothing to be concerned of, considering how hyped up SotFN was, it was bound to score higher than any other episode. This makes this the most-watched episode of Avatar (excluding SotFN) since the season premiere, which grabbed 3.7 million viewers on March 17th. This news comes via USA Today. Although no specific time is given, the number of viewers implies it was for the latest new episode, although that could be wrong.
In other ratings news, Media Life Magazine reports all three Avatar airings last week (9/18 - 9/24) scored in the top 25 of all cable. Here is the link for that. Just scroll down until you find "Top 25 Ad-supported Cable TV Programs".
As far as the site goes, updates will trickel in, so make sure to keep coming back for those. Much will be done on Saturday, including Characters up thru 215. This goes without saying, but be sure to tune in tomorrow for "Tales of Ba Sing Se" at 8 pm EDT/PDT. Ratings info, if available, will be posted next week. Have a good night and a great weekend!
Yes! I know feel accomplished, because I have the character guide updated through The Fury of Aang movie. I added 10 bios today to that guide. Whew... well I'll get to work on Tuesday on the following characters: Ying, Than & Hope (and their other daughter - who's currently nameless), incompetent General Sung, the Terra Team, the Bureaucrat (Suki's boss at the ferry station), the mischevious Long Feng and the Dai Li, the creepy and always smiling Joo Dee, Pong, the nervous government employee, and Pao, and possibly some others (were there any others?). Unfortunately, episode guides aren't done. I'll work on them ASAP. Wan Shin Tong will soon be added to the Psychedex, and we'll update the Bestiary. More updates are definitely on their way!
