Azula is your worst nightmare. After appearing in a brief segment during "The Storm," Azula was given a "task" by her father, Fire Lord Ozai, at the end of "The Siege of the North (Part 2)." In the season two premiere, "The Avatar State," her "task" was more clear: capture Iroh, Zuko, and the Avatar.
Princess Azula can create and bend lightning, a feat we did not even know was possible before. The relationship between Zuko and Azula is much worse than your average sibling-rivalry. Apparently, Azula has lied many times to Zuko, as in the season two premiere Zuko said "You lied to me!" and Azula replied, sarcastically, "Like I've never done that before."
Her father is very proud of her. Azula is a "firebending prodigy" as her brother so elegantly put it. It is obvious Ozai favors Azula over Zuko, despite Zuko being his only son (well, that we know of). Azula possesses the traits that most in the Fire Nation do: she's irate, deceitful, and downright despicable. But that's also why a lot of fans, including myself, like her.
In the premiere episode of season two, Azula told Zuko and Iroh that there were ors of people wanting to overthrow the Fire Lord, and that Ozai wanted his entire family back at his side. Iroh was skeptic, but Zuko wanted to believe his sister. In the end Azula proved to be a liar, and we're sure to see more of her as the show progresses.
In the season 2 finale, she orchestrated a coup to take down the Earth King and Council of Five. She also took down Long Feng, replacing him as the Dai Li's highest authority. By the end, her manipulative ways earned her the conquering of Ba Sing Se, the Earth Kingdom's last stronghold, and she was aided by her brother, whom she convinced to follow her. Zuko now believes Ozai will accept him back as a war hero because of Azula.
