Avatar: The Last Airbender has cast its charm upon many viewers – that is obvious. Some haven’t watched Avatar and make fun of us fans, who chat long hours about what will happen and what has happened. In my opinion, those who don’t watch Avatar are lost souls. Avatar is absolutely amazing, and if you don’t agree, read on. I believe you will find if absolutely impossible to not enjoy this show for one reason or another. Everyone is a fan because of different reasons, and everyone has different opinions on the show. However, there are a few main reasons on why Avatar is so popular.

Even if you are not obsessed enough to extreme character fandom, I'm sure any viewer of the show will agree that the characters are deeply enjoyable. Some of the characters can be so humorous and just fascinating, and I think there is a point in the show for everyone that you can see one of the characters as a real person. You can just get so involved in each person and really feel that they are human. Relating to the people in the show is even possible, even though their daily events and scenarios are so different than ours. From the very first episode to the last I, if nothing else, have grown closer to each character. They mature. They mature, grow, learn, and love. It is early on in the show, but you can still feel all this happening. Characters don't get more real than that.

These characters aren't clichéd either. While sometimes it is easy to pick out what they do, it's not like you will be able to tell how they will be for the entire show. Different things happen and affect them, and it makes them a tad bit more different than when the episode started. The amazing thing for me to realize is that people are planning each move the characters make. As was said in an interview, by Bryan Konietzko (one of the creators of the show) He [Aaron Ehaszthe lead writer] and his professionalism too… he's really good at developing his characters. And he makes sure that the stories we tell aren't just tricky plots, but are also character based and character driven.”

The voice acting with the characters is also great. Jack DeSena does a great job with making Sokka and his sarcastic dialogue very hilarious. Sokka could be a very dull character if the voice wasn’t right, but Jack does an excellent job in making Sokka a humorous character! Another wonderful voice is the one of Uncle Iroh. Makoto Iwamatsu brings such life to him! It’s the voice that makes Iroh the charming uncle that we all know and love! Dante Basco is also quite talented in bringing the very favorable (especially to many of the ladies) Prince Zuko to life!

I tell you, the people behind this show are genius.

But not only does Avatar have excellent characters, but a very original plotline.

I think it’s the storyline the catches many viewers, because it’s… dare I say it? Original. That’s something that can be hard to find now-a-days. But Avatar has avoided all the clichéness and really come up with something new and inspirational. The elements are used in a somewhat different way than usually seen, and it has attracted many people. This show would not be nearly as popular if it was just another teenage boy fighting off monsters or something of that sort. No. It’s the plot line that really sucks a lot of viewers in. Every episode is very suspenseful, and I can tell that every episode leads, or is leading, to something bigger and better. It also causes some of us to reach our inner child. The fantasy just takes you away.

A definite plot line is also pretty hard to find on channels and companies like Nick. The creators have done their research and they have come up with something that relates to different events and beliefs in history. That’s a characteristic that I personally enjoy. On most shows, every episode is a different plot. But Avatar is different and in this case, change is good.

Also, the artists have worked pretty hard on the characters. Their moments are so life-like during fights and even when sitting down! You can see their talent through the art from all the characters and animals you discover in this show. These drawings and animation have inspired many fans.

It’s not just the detailed characters and storyline that gets some artists attracted, but the background as well. You might have not taken a chance to notice, but everything is so detailed and beautiful! It’s the world’s most detailed and expertly taken photographs, put into animation form! Some cartoons have those very fake looking backdrops, but Avatar hasn’t settled for less than the best. Words cannot describe all of it. Take a look for yourself.

Another art in Avatar is the music. The music in Avatar is absolutely amazing. Again, not less than the best. Some of the scenes are given that spark with just the right music. One of my favorite scenes is in “Avatar Roku.” The music behind the scene where Roku is ‘showing his stuff’ gives me complete chills. Many of the other action scenes are also great, not only because of the action, but of the music.

There are probably a billion other reasons why some love and others should watch Avatar: The Last Airbender. But these are the main and/or most popular. I really hope those who have never seen Avatar give it a shot, because as I will tell you and others will agree, Avatar: The Last Airbender is just plain amazing.
