First Appeared: Bato of the Water Tribe
Last Appeared: The Guru

Fanlistings: None

In ‘Bato of the Water Tribe’ Hakoda is briefly mentioned as Katara and Sokka’s father. We learn he left his tribe to go to war two years before the present time, leaving his children behind. Little is heard of him, despite his clearly important role in the story.

Sokka and Katara meet Bato, a good friend of Hakoda. We hear of his humorous side (that Sokka apparently inherited), and how he had meticulously care for those he care about. He leads a band of men from the Southern water tribe who traveled to the Earth Kingdom to aid them in the war.
Hakoda is roughly a middle-aged man with dark black hair and a bit of a go-tee.  He has a very strong voice, and is voiced by the same man who did King Bumi's voice.  It appears he is a tremendous father, just by the way he spoke to Sokka in his flashback in "Bato."  His mother is Gran Gran, and his wife was killed off years ago by the fire nation, which was the last straw for him and caused him to go out and fight for what is right.  Hakoda has gone thought a lot, but as we found out, he really has had some fun adventures as well.

Leading a group of Water Tribe warriors protecting Chameleon Bay, Hakoda was reunited with his son after two-plus years.  Hakoda is shown to have created several handy defense weapons, including the "stink 'n sink", which is a device set to detonate when a ship triggers it and it releases a gasly odor, causing member of the ship to abandon it.

Last we saw of Hakoda he and his group of Water Tribe warriors were heading to sea for a battle with with the Fire Navy, whose ships were spotted nearby.  Sokka had to leave because Aang told him Katara was in trouble, but Hakoda, Bato and the other warriors sailed off, not knowing they are one of the final remaining resistance strongholds to the Fire Nation with Ba Sing Se falling.
