A giant panda spirit that is the guardian of the Earth Kingdom's forests. When Commander Zhao burned down Hei-bai's home forest near the Winter Solstice (Episodes 7 and 8), it entered the real world, decimating villages in anger and stealing their villagers. In this earthly form, Hei-bai no longer looks like an mammal. It becomes a hideous six-limbed, hairless with blue-flaming spirit-breath. Aang calms down Hei-bai after showing it the acorns survived, and that the forest would grow back. Hei-bai returns to the Spirit World, and the captured villagers return. Hei-bai returns in Episode 20 in the Spirit World to give Aang a ride; here it appeared as a normal giant panda.
