Air Elemental Creatures are defined as those creatures who are directly associated with the monks of the Air Nation, or those airbo e creatures not associated with any of the other 4 nations.
Flying Bison: A ten-ton flying bison / beaver with six legs. Appa (whose name comes from the Hindu word "ap," meaning air) is Aang's Guardian, and the last of his specie on the Earth. They have exceptionally fluffy white fur marked with brown arrows on the head, back and tail; they have long ho s that are tied with reins to control them in flight. Such flight was the only way to access Air Temples in the pre-airship era. Their tail is the "beaver" part of them, and is used by the beast for rudimentary airbending, namely blasts of air strong enough to shatter stone. Winged-Lemur: Actually a real-life creature found very rarely in southeast Africa (here called Dermopterans), ATLA's flying lemurs are not quite the same. Real flying lemurs look almost identical to flying squirrels (though are still relative to Primates), but ATLA's are chimeras of Madagascan lemur and bat. This flying lemur has big green eyes, large ears for listening, and a long prehensile tail. They are great climbers; their batwings are attached to their forelimbs but fold into regular arms when needed, and they love to be mischievous. Momo (Chinese for Peach, which Momo loves to eat) is the last of the flying lemurs, and befriended Aang at the Southe Air Temple; it appears that Momo is special and that flying lemurs are not normally domesticated and tame. Hermit Crabs: So far seen only for short periods at the Northe Air Temple, these hermit crabs are covered in a very fine black-and-white fur and have butterfly-like antennae. They are quite shy, but once their trust is ea ed, they will gladly be held and petted. They live in deep, fungus-laden crevices in the mountains and underbellies of the Air Temples. They also appear to be the first Air elemental creatures to retu to their homes after a Fire Nation attack. Creature descriptions written by -Ngo-rongo-ro
