Water Elemental Creatures are classified as those animals associated with water tribesmen and women, or those creatures who live within the confinds of a body of water and are not affiliated with any other nation.
Unagi: This huge sea serpent (technically, "unagi" is Japanese for eel) can be found near Kyoshi Island. In fact, Kyoshi-islanders have been known to sacrifice criminals to the Unagi as an extreme punishment. It can shoot powerful blows of water out of its mouth, and has layers of sharp teeth. It has spikes along its long body, whiskers like a Chinese dragon, and a massive fin on the back of its neck that shows above the water. Irrationally aggressive and dangerous, it has been suggested that Unagis (assuming there are more than the Unagi seen but once) are nonetheless the Guardians of Water Tribe Avatars.

Penguin: This penguin / otter hybrid can be found waddling around the shores of the South Pole, but as aforementioned are only referred to as penguins. It is black-backed, has a white front, and has four fins as wings in the manner of a penguin, but has an otter's face, whiskers, locomotion, tale, and vocalizations. Its feet are rather duck-like, oddly enough. It is common sport amongst Water Tribe children in the region to "sled" on them after luring them with sardines.
Seal: These seal / tiger hybrids have the same physical features as regular seals, but have a different "look," and as the penguins are referred to simply as they are in the real world. Their face has similar features as a tiger: the nose, the ears (somewhat "floppy"), and the stripes. They serve as a good source of food for the Water Tribe, and are important.

Polar Bear: This Polar Bear looks just like real ones, except for the long stripe flowing down from nose to back. Further . . . it is a pet. This polar bear apparently lives among the Water Tribe, and seems to act somewhat like a guard dog.
Arctic Hippo(potamus): A massive, omnivorous (to the disdain of the Water Tribes) white hippopotamus of the glaciers. Vicious, irrational, and rare (thankfully), arctic hippos have never actually been seen on screen, but merely had awesome tales told of them. Nevertheless, it is still most likely that they are not of myth but real.
Koala Otter (left): A gray otter with a koala's head, and a fluffy tail striped in white. So far, they were only seen once at the North Pole.
Musk-ox Reindeer (right): A reindeer with a shaggy coat and an ox's ho s, they are apparently a minor steed for guards at the North Pole.
Elephant Koi (left): These gigantic koi fish (looking just as their life counterparts) live alongside the Unagi, which makes them the prime prey. They are very fast, and are used to ride in sports.
Leatherback Seal (right): Though called seals, the leatherback seals look more like sea lions, in a way similar to the tiger-like regular seals. They are a uniform gray with a green shell encompassing their torsos in the manner of a sea turtle. Leatherback seals live in cave s permeating the massive glaciers of the North Pole. Prince Zuko infiltrated the North Pole in Episodes 19 and 20 using the leatherback seals' tunnels.
