The architecture of Avatar: the Last Airbender is very distinct to the Chinese, specifically from during and after the Ming Period (1300's to Present). There is also influence and accents from the architecture of Coryo (pronounced "sore-'ee-,oh"), the ancient kingdom that would become mode -day Korea. There also has been a lack of Hindu and Japanese architecture present in ATLA. The architecture of the Water tribes has an almost Iranian flair at times, and the North Pole has elements distinct to Weste architectural periods, notably Renaissance and ic. Many have noted that the warring political climate of Avatar: The Last Airbender is very similar to both the Three Kingdoms era (late Second through early Fourth Centuries) of China, and the Japanese invasion of Manchuria at the beginning of the Second World War. Specifically, the Fire Nation's e and exclusive industrialization is comparable to Japan's during the Twenties and Thirties in the Pacific. The animators and professional sinologists (authorities on Chinese ure) very carefully prepare the writing system used in ATLA. It is authentic ancient Classical Mandarin, the most complex of the Chinese writing systems. As to the dress of those in the ATLA universe, the Fire Kingdom is rather Chinese while the Earth Kingdom has a Japanese flair. The Air Nomads dress is very much Tibetan, and Water tribes people dress in a fashion extremely similar to the Northwest Coast Native Americans and the Aleut (not to be confused with the "Eskimos," who are properly called the Inuit). The nuns encountered in "Bato of the Water Tribe" (Episode 15) were again dressed in a very Weste fashion, and resembled the habit of many a Weste European Catholic nunnery. Another distinctly Weste feature is the YuuYan Archers, whose bows are more English than Mongol.
