Like his buddy Sneerz, Longshot is quiet. We can only assume he is just shy and chooses not to speak much. Years ago the Fire Nation destroyed his life, burning the town he had lived in his whole life to the ground. It's possible his parents were killed, or are currently being held captive, by the Fire Nation. However, we don't know if either of those are true.
As a part of Jet's group, Longshot is the lead archer. He has very good skills when it comes to accurately hitting a target from a sizable distance away. In the episode "Jet", Longshot used his skills to knock swords out of a bunch of Fire Nation soldiers' grasps.
Longshot may not say much, but he seems supportive of Jet and his actions. In season 2, he, Jet and Smellerbee reappeared, and they apparently are "going straight" this time in Ba Sing Se. Longshot was revealed to be able to talk, ending speculation that he might be a mute. He and Smellerbee stayed behind after Jet was taken down by Long Feng.
It is currently not known what happened to Smellerbee or Longshot. Smellerbee was weeping next to a dying Jet, while Longshot was providing cover in case Long Feng came back. Whether they ultimately got out alright or not is unknown right now.
