Led by a man named Yung, the Omashu resistance has been working underground (literally) to try and kick the Fire Nation out of Omashu. Although we have seen hundreds of soldiers, apparently there are many more Fire Nation troops there, as it has been mentioned how they were outnumbered. Yung was the Captain of King Bumi's army before the Fire Nation's invasion, and was very loyal to the King. He obeyed Bumi's orders to the letter.
But before Sokka's ingenious "Pentapox" idea, the resistance was losing greatly in Omashu, gaining almost no ground since the invasion. They even tried to launch an attack against the First Family (The Governor's wife, Mai, Tom-Tom and a few guards), but that was haulted by Aang. Aang told the resistance members they were outnumbered, and that if they left the city, they could do more good out there than in Omashu. Enter the Pentapox idea. Everyone in the resistance used little Pentapusses to create disease-looking freckles on the faces on themselves, and all pretended they were sickened with a deadly disease. The Governor, thinking it was actually a real disease, let all the resistance go, which was a majority of the city.
Now the resistance heads off to new ground, to try and help Earth Kingdom and Water Tribe armies defeat the vicious Fire Nation. Will they succeed though? Are they going to go to Ba Sing Se first? Will we ever see these brave warriors again?
