NoneThe Rough Rhinos are an elite Fire Nation task force that is led by Colonel Mongke. Not much is known of their history, but they appear to be a sort of Special Forces unit, comprised of several different fire nation soldiers, including two firebenders, a YuuYan archer, and an explosives expert. All of the men in the unit ride fire nation Rhinos, hence the name. None of the soldiers in the Rough Rhinos wear conventional Fire Nation army or navy uniforms or armor, besides the Yu-Yan Archer, with most of them appearing to wear customized armor and gear, a tactic generally used by Special Forces soldiers. It is not known where they take their orders from, or whether they act on their own.
The Rough Rhinos are first seen in Avatar Day when they happen upon Aang, Sokka, and Katara and attack them. The attack is unsuccessful, but the Rhinos appear later in the episode, when they attack the city of Chin during the trial of Avatar Kyoshi/Aang. Colonel Mongke proclaims that he is seizing the town as property of Fire Lord Ozai. The attack is foiled by Aang, Katara, and Sokka. The entire Rough Rhino unit is taken out, with Colonel Mongke defeated by Aang, the Yu-Yan Archer dragged off by his rhino after being attacked by Sokka, and the explosives expert ostensibly blown up when a flaming arrow hits his explosives, among others. It is left undetermined whether or not the Rhinos are able to regroup, or whether they are no more.
Iroh described the Rough Rhinos as "legendary". He apparently knew them quite well from his time in the military as a General. Also according to Iroh, they are a very capable singing group.
In "Lake Laogai" it was revealed that Colonel Mongke and his crew destroyed Jet's town when he was a child. In Jet's flashbacks, the memory of it was too painful.
