The second installment of Jaguarundi's Book 3 speculation series!
To see part one of this article, click here. These are just speculations, again, and not concrete facts or spoilers for Book 3. Romance - Who will Sokka “end up” with? Nobody knows the answer to this, but I’m going to speculate as to who he will not end up with. It’s unlikely to be Ty Lee: her crush on him is used for comedic effect and to accentuate Sokka’s character as a ladies man even further.
In Book III at least, he’s also unlikely to end up with Toph (or even notice her crush on him, for goodness sakes). Even though Jessie Flower wants Toph to end up with Sokka (see the ASN interview with her), and even though Toph wants to end up with Sokka, it’s just not happening. However, at the end of Book III, we might see these characters "when they’re older," post-Ozai. And then it is a possibility.
- "Will Katara and Aang ever be more than friends?" That’s a quote from the Book I “Ask the Creators” special feature. And the answer is: nobody knows. Dun dun dun! Before Aang matured considerably, I would’ve said that it was very unlikely to happen. Before the Book II finale, I would’ve said that it could go either way. And now after the Book II finale, I’d say that it’s much, much more likely than not, given how much the Book II finale emphasized and progressed their relationship. But still, nobody really knows what will happen in Book III between them.
Bending
- Will we ever get to see “Peoplebending?” “The Swamp” heavily implied that it is possible to use Waterbending to move anything with a lot of water in it (“I just bend the water in the vines,” Huu said). Guess what has a lot of water-content? People. In fact, the nick.com official site has this to say about Waterbenders: “While reliance on a water source is a significant weakness of the style, Waterbending at its highest skill level contains the most powerful technique among all the Bending Arts. At close ranges, an expert Waterbender uses an opponent’s body against them. They harness the ample amount of water within the human body to control an opponent like a puppet master.” I’m just waiting for the day that Katara “Personbends” when she’s really ticked.
- Will Zuko get to redirect lightning or even learn it himself? (Thanks to Nicolas Montes for this one!) Just as there was a “final showdown” between Zuko and Zhao in Book I, a “final showdown” between Zuko and Azula seems inevitable. Does that mean that Zuko will finally get to redirect lightning as Iroh taught him to do, or will even learn to generate it himself once he is at peace within himself? So dramatic!
Recurring Characters
- What will become of Bumi and Omashu? My guess is that something will happen with Bumi and Omashu (even if it’s only in the epilogue). Bumi’s waiting and listening for the right time to strike!
- Will we see Pakku and Kana again? Pakku left to help the Southern Water Tribe. Does that mean we’ll see Pakku or Kana and the rest of the Southern Water Tribe again? I’m betting it’s a very good chance.
- Will Koh make another appearance? This is a pretty good possibility (cf. the audio commentary on “Siege of the North”). Which excites me, because I’d love to see another trip to the Spirit World, because the show’s mythology is what hooked me onto the series at first.
What do you think might happen in Book III? If you’ve got a speculation that I haven’t thought of, I’ll list it on this page and credit you. (But no fanon shipping, please). |
