As reported by our friends at Avatarspirit.net, Nick will release the first edition of the exclusive Avatar magazine. Unless I'm mistaken, this is the first Nicktoon to get a magazine all to itself! So this is obviously tremendous news, and we're all excited about it. Reportedly it will go on sale on September 12th. The next part is information taken from the Avatarspirit.net site, and I would like to give them all the credit! It's all the stuff included in this frst edition. · 19 pages of original, full-color comics produced by writers and artists from the TV show including Joshua Hamilton, Tim Hedrick, Hye-Jung Kim, and Justin Ridge (known for his work in Flight 2, the acclaimed comics anthology). · An interview with Avatar’s creators, Bryan Konietzko and Mike DiMartino. Learn the secrets behind the show’s origin and influences. · Exclusive pages from Bryan Konietzko’s sketchbook. Lots of Momo! · An overview of Four Nations: discover who’s who in the Avatar universe. · A complete map of the Avatar world, with detailed notes about the sites and locales visited by Aang and the gang. · A profile on Avatar fandom featuring some of the best fan sites, cosplay pics, and the “shipping” phenomenon. As you all surely know by now, Mako (full name Makoto Iwamatsu) has passed away, due to esophageal cancer on July 21, 2006. Mako was 72 years old. Unfortunately, his life was cut short a few weeks ago. We are deeply saddened by this news, and our condolences from the entire DF staff go out to Mako's family. He was a great man for sure, and Avatar won't be the same without his irreplaceable voice. Rest in peace, Mako.
We are preparing a tribute section for Mako, just as a memory and as our little way of saying "Thanks!" to the great man who was Makoto Iwamatsu.. Look for this tribute to come within the week or so.
On another note, I want to thank all of DF's users who have visited the site since its return. Upon a check of the site stats, we had over 100,000 hits in each of the past 2 months! Let's hope we can keep that up! Don't forget we also have a forum, a gallery (soon we'll have character galleries so you can have all your favorite pics of your favorite characters in one place) and also a chat. There will be the first MAJOR chat since DF's return for "Secret of the Fire Nation" on September 15th, beginning at 7 pm ET. However, the chat room is open 24/7/365, so you can go into either the "General Chat" or "Avatar TV Show Discussion" anytime and discuss the topic at hand in there! Enjoy!

CableTVTalk.com reports Nickelodeon has picked up 20 more episodes of Avatar: The Last Airbender. This brings the series up to 60 episodes. However, there was no mention in the article that this would be the final season, so maybe we will get more Avatar afterall!
Here's a quote from Marjorie Cohn, Nick's Executive Vice President, Development and Original Programming, "In season three, Aang will confront his biggest enemy yet along with Katara and Sokka, and meet his destiny by facing the evil Fire Lord at last."
Should be awesome! And we still have 11 episodes of season 2 to go through! As for all you "Zuko will join Aang and the gang people," I'm still having my doubts.

This is absolutely amazing. While doing some searching on the web, I have come across yet another Avatar-branded item. This time, though, it's actually something with a purpose other than amusing little kids. It's actually a 2007 calendar of the show.
You may be wondering how I know this, and if you should even believe it. Well, not to toot my own horn here, but I believe I was the first to mention the cine-manga, the box set (way back when the volumes were being released), as well as the roller coaster. And I know this because of Overstock.com.
Well, I guess it will be interesting to see the show in a calendar format. Would they theme it like the four nations are themed (Water-winter, Earth-spriing, Fire-summer, Air-fall), which would make sense, or would they come up with something creative to surprise us fans? At any rate, the best prices for this that I've seen are $9 from Overtsock (see link above) and $10 from Amazon.com. Will you buy the calendar? Sound off in our forums! |

Now you may all know this by now, or it may be news to you. On July 14, in the US, Nickelodeon will be broadcasting episodes 210 and 211, "The Library" and "The Desert" respectively, together and calling it a TV movie titled "The Fury of the Avatar." We on DF will refer to it as two different episodes, since that's what the original intention of the writers and producers. Now there has been plenty of speculation as to whether this is actual TV movie or if it's just two episodes put together. I answered that above. It is just two different episodes to be aired on the same night, just like "Avatar Day" and "The Blind Bandit" on April 28th. Oh wait, Nick cancelled that :-) . According to one of my sources, the episodes aren't even a two-parter. Remember how in season 1 we had "The Spirit World (Winter Solstice, Part 1)" and "Avatar Roku (Winter Solstice, Part 2)"? Well, they were aired as different episodes on different days, and fit together very well, while these two, which were written to be aired on different nights, are a "TV movie." Somehow that doesn't seem right to me. Anyway, don't get me wrong. My source says the episodes ultimately fit together, but when the episode airs, you'll see they were both individually written episodes. Personally, I hope that Nick airs some sort of recap episode in the "Avatar: The Legend So Far" realm before July 14th. Because, when you think about it, some, however few, of the kids who are part of Nick's core summer movie target, have never watched Avatar, or don't keep up with it. It would be nice for a small recap of the season so far before this "movie" airs. |
