Dylan here and UGO has an interview with Shyamalan in which he tell of some changes he made from the show:
1) "So – in our movie – the majority of the benders still need a source. So
you need fire nearby, which creates all sorts of wonderful, practical
issues."
2) "Exactly. Now, the other big change is the pronunciation of some of the
names. ... So “Aang” is not
[like Tang] but “Aang” [like Tong.] It’s “Ang Lee.” ... Also, it isn’t “Avatar” like aaah, it is “Avatar” like “Of-Atar.” That’s a subtle difference, though. ... Sokka” [pronounced Sock-Ka] is pronounced “Soh-ka” (“soh” as in “sew”)
and Iroh, Uncle Iroh, isn’t “Eye-Row” but “Eer-Row.” Everything else is
the same."
Needless to say, these changes will piss off the entire fandom, especially the 2nd change. I have absolutely no idea why Shyamalan did this... he tries to explain in the article but his explanation means nothing to me. You can screw with the story slightly sure M Night, but changing how the character's names are pronounced? Seriously?! |

Dylan here and TLA Fans has put out the full transcript of a roundtable with Shyamalan. The transcript is 13 pages and it is excellent. I'd definitely recommend reading all of it. There are a couple new things and several worth commenting on, which I do after the break. Hit "Read more..." to see them. |

Dylan here and wow, Avatar got some huge time during the Kid's Choice Awards:
1) New trailer featuring 2 new scenes! Aang and Zuko fighting and the gaang riding on Appa.
2) Noah Ringer speaks! We can now match his voice up with the "I don't deserve their praise" line in the trailer. He doesn't sound like Aang, but I wouldn't worry about it too much.
3) Nicola "slimebending" (stupid gimmick, but nice to see the movie get plugged) with Jackson onstage too (thanks to freespirit for link).
4) Pics of Nicola, Jackson, Noah, M. Night, Dev |

Dylan here and a new "The Last Airbender" trailer is out! It is very similar to the last one, but contains some new scenes mainly towards the end including two new speaking lines from Nicola and possibly the first line we've heard from Noah?
3/26/10 - A Japanese trailer has some new clips in it! Thanks to Freespirit for the link.
3/27/10 - Another new trailer, played during the Kid's Choice Awards, features 2 new scenes: Aang and Zuko fighting and the gaang riding on Appa! |

Dylan here and unfortunately "Dissertation for the Debut", our weekly episode viewing and trivia event is cancelled due to low turnout. However, most weeks I will still be hosting Weekly Trivia. Look for the announcement for each individual week around mid-week.
-Edit- There will be no trivia this week. Trivia will (likely) resume next week. |

Jake here, and I have always wanted to use the word "breaking" in the title of a post. Here it seems fitting, because as I'm sitting here at my computer working on math homework, I got an email notification from Google Alerts, with this exciting tidbit:
"This July 2nd sees the theatrical debut of M. Night Shyamalan's live-action film The Last Airbender, based on the excellent Nickelodeon animated series. To tie in with that new cinematic experience, Nickelodeon and Paramount Home Entertainment are bringing out a new limited edition DVD set titled Avatar: The Last Airbender - The Complete Book 1: Collector's Edition. This 7-disc set running 495 minutes of cartoon adventure, presented in full screen video, will be available on June 22nd."
This comes from TVShowsonDVD.com. This will be the first Avatar DVD release in nearly two years, since the release of the Complete Book 3 collection back in September 2008 (dang, it has been 2 years already?!).
Many of us have been wondering if Nick will do a complete series DVD collection; this seems to answer that. They will re-release the complete seasons in conjunction with the movie which corresponds to that season, with perhaps a few extras. It does seem this is just a promotional idea for the movie. But hey, it's a "Collector's Edition," so as a fan, why not buy it? Unless it's outrageously priced (no pricing info has been released yet), it would seem fans should try to get their hands on this new DVD set.
Here's the description:
"Relive from the beginning the epic saga of Avatar: The Last Airbender, the animated series that quickly became a phenomenon, creating a huge fan base that spans the globe! This newly designed limited edition 7-disc collector's edition includes the entire Book 1: Water compilation, packed with special features, an exclusive behind-the scenes documentary and a beautifully illustrated paperback book that provides a unique, insider's view of the amazing designs, storyboards, paintings and animation." |
